1. What brought you to Intellia? What keeps you here?

I joined Intellia right after I graduated. I heard about the job from a friend and came in for an interview. I'd never considered consulting as a career path but the work sounded interesting. The work environment and the people keep me here. Everyone is friendly and always ready to help. The environment feels safe and comfortable.

2. What did you learn in your first year on the job?

I learnt a lot about so many different industries. I learnt how to organise my time and my work better. I learnt how to ask for help whenever I needed it which I think says a lot about the culture.

3. What do you like most about your job?
 

I like that we're always doing different things since each project usually lasts a month. You never get bored and the work isn't monotonous. I've been given a lot of opportunities to take on more managerial roles along with my regular work which is something I've both appreciated and enjoyed.

4. How do you find the balance you need at the firm?
 

Our work is result oriented which offers flexibility. Unless there are meetings, if I've cleared it with my project manager, I know I can usually step out for a few hours during the day if I ever need to and finish the work later at night. If a project has required long hours for a few weeks and working weekends, we are encouraged to use those hours to take a day or two off.

5. Tell us about your most memorable project.
 

My most memorable project was one of my first projects. We had to provide an estimate on granular breakdowns of public sector employees (sector, income, type etc.) across multiple geographies. Initially, after conducting an exhaustive secondary research exercise I was not able to find most of the numbers. I remember being so stressed and thinking that was it and that we'd just go back to the client and say the information didn't exist. In consulting, if there’s one thing I’ve learnt is that you have to be creative with an open mind. After some brainstorming sessions with my manager, he told me to use my judgment and reasoning to be able to conduct some detailed triangulation using multiple proxy data. That was the first time I learnt that we usually wouldn't find any of the information or analysis and that most of the job was coming up with those numbers and insights yourself and that you could present anything as long as you could back it up with any solid logic / methodology. I also learnt how important it was to record your thought process and reasoning while calculating estimates.

6. What has been the best training program?

The best training program has been the management training we did a few months back. It explained a lot about how to best handle delicate situations. Most of those things seem intuitive but it helped to see it put into words and concrete solutions to different types of problems.
