1. What brought you to Intellia? What keeps you here?
I didn’t know what my friends meant when they said “they loved their jobs” until I joined Intellia, that too on a recommendation of a friend. At the start of my career, I chose the Audit path at one of the big 4 and quickly realized it wasn't for me. I decided to move back to Pakistan, not knowing what the work environment was at most places. While I was looking to switch jobs, I stumbled upon an opportunity at Intellia and decided to try my luck. Now I know what my friends meant when they said “they loved their jobs”.
What keeps me at Intellia is the culture of appreciation and motivation. The confidence that your managers put in your work. Most companies in the world claim to be people-centric but Intellia actually materializes it through its culture.
2. What did you learn in your first year on the job?
So many skills and things, I can't even begin to explain! My time at Intellia has been an enlightening and incredible journey. It's hard to learn when you're trained in a room rather than on a field. Intellia utilizes both delivery methods and that's what sets it apart. Improvisation and self-management are two of the most important skills I learnt during my first year at Intellia.
3. What do you like most about your job?
Variety! There is no dull day at Intellia. The reason there is so much to learn at Intellia is because you get to work in multiple industries doing all kinds of analysis / modelling etc.
4. How do you find the balance you need at the firm?
Part of what makes Intellia a great place to work is the flexibility that comes with the job. As long as you are on time with your deliverables, you are sorted. The management is extremely understanding and aware. Some days when you’d end up working on weekends or late hours, someone will probably tell you to take a few hours off and just chill. Also once you learn to self-manage, you find the balance you need.
5. Tell us about your most memorable project.
Project Rose will probably be the most memorable project for life. The aim of the project was to develop a product roadmap via benchmarking for one of the largest real estate portals in the region and we actually had to present our findings directly to former executives of Tech Giants. It was also the first time I was taking the lead of a big project. It pushed me and the team beyond our limits and even now when I think back, I wouldn’t be who I am today without this opportunity.
6. What has been the best training program?
For me, everyday is training day at Intellia. There is not a single day I haven't learnt something new. However, if I have to choose, it would actually be the management training program. You basically step up from thinking about your specific tasks to taking a step back and thinking about the entire project and its purpose.
7. What characteristics do you believe define an INTELLIAan?
As an Intellian, you’re definitely self-driven. You don't want to just sit there and think I can’t do this but actually go figure it out. However, you are not alone so another thing that would define an Intellian would be seeking out to teammates for help. Ownership of work is also key and the curiosity to just jump in and learn!
